Ann Y. Burton, MD, is an Integrative Medicine Specialist, and has been practicing physician for over twenty years. Dr. Burton trained in out-patient Primary Care Internal Medicine, and specializes in Complementary and Alternative Medicine (herbal, detox), Holistic Medicine, Environmental Medicine (allergies, chemical and mold sensitivities), mental health-cognitive therapy, and Energy Medicine. Preventive Medicine is her main focus with strong emphasis on nutritional and lifestyle changes. Dr. Burton applies a "functional" medicine approach and recognizes the importance of the mind-body connection.
Before entering medical school, Dr. Burton was already a member of an organization called "The Michigan Holistic Association". She is a graduate of Kalamazoo College where she majored in psychology and focused in pre-med studies. Her "conventional" medical training took place at Ross University School of Medicine and The Medical College of Ohio. Dr. Burton completed a specialized internal (adult) medicine residency program called "Primary Care Internal Medicine" at Cook County Hospital in Chicago, Illinois, and received additional training in occupational and environmental medicine at the University of Illinois at Chicago. After completion of her residency programs, Dr. Burton worked in several locations around the country and served as Medical Director for automobile assembly plants in Indiana and Illinois.
Growing up in a household which emphasized service to others and her country, Dr. Burton is proud to have been an enlisted soldier and commissioned officer. She is a retired Captain of U.S. Army Reserves and has worked in VA and military installations throughout the Midwest and the south. Dr. Burton also has a background in home care and occupational medicine.
Her Integrative Medicine training has evolved and become more comprehensive over many years. Certification includes: natural and herbal medicine from Dr. Tierona Lowdog, and energy medicine from the International College of BioEnergetic Medicine. Dr. Burton has completed Frequency Specific Microcurrent(FSM) training with Dr.Carolyn McMakin. She has also obtained additional training in bioidentical hormone replacement(BHRT) from American Academy of Anti-Aging(A4M). Dr. Burton is certified for IV/detox/chelation therapy by the American College of Advanced Medicine(ACAM). She is active member of the International College of Integrative Medicine.
Dr. Ann Burton proudly recognizes those who have come before her and acknowledges the works of Drs. William Crook ("The Yeast Connection"), Theron Randolph ("The Alternative Approach To Allergies") and Andrew Weil (author of numerous books; Director of the Center of Integrative Medicine at University of Arizona). Dr. Burton is continuously inspired by the works and teachings of Dr. Tierona Lowdog. Dr. Lowdog has been Fellowship Director of the Integrative Medicine Program developed by Dr. Andrew Weil. She has been named Director of the newly formed specialty board of Integrative Medicine.
